only skimmed it, but haven't pitchfork already done 2 articles saying basically the same things? the first one was pretty well researched as PC articles go, but they just get worse each time

I enjoyed this article. Idk if I agree with it, but it was nice to see a different take than most other articles at least.

Interesting that the Chanel video credits him as "Guy Cook". It also credits the Jlin song to Mu & Jlin and the record label as "Planet" (It's a Planet Mu release) whoever wrote the description just did a lazy job I guess haha

^ Wow, that was a great read. Tons of interesting bits there. It's very refreshing to hear him open up and talk about his music in a way that shows how much thought he puts into what he does. The way he talks about his music as existing in a state of heightened emotion captures it perfectly. Loved reading about how Tim & Eric have influenced him and A.G. too - "there’s no logic, perception or discussion. Only in hindsight do you really analyze. Whilst it’s happening, you just do it." Hearing him say he loves nightcore makes me happy too + makes perfect sense. Also - what was that about live singers?

Thanks, the part about Red Bull and QT was really interesting! I have to say, the more I read about their music sponsorship the more impressed I am with the company. "Brand confusion" is not something I could see most big companies embracing.

Yeah, soz Polly, but I get the impression that a lot of this one does seem to be legit abhorrent rather than ironic :/ oh dear, text messages are not her strong point

It's not a big secret that some of the PCM crowd enjoys some, um, coarse? edgy? humor (I'm trying not to say non-PC ok). I mean, Danny fav'd this tweet Anyway to me it seems like GFOTY's joke was more about the crowd/atmosphere than some kind of... actually I don't even know how it would be racist. Implication that black people are all secretly white people in blackface? I dunno.

^ I understand how it could be seen as a criticism of the crowd. Field Day had a lot of posh white people in attendance, and it could be a joke about how some of those posh white people might have seen the Diabetés on stage and ignorantly dismissed them as some "tribal band", unaware that they are descended from generations of kora players, unaware of the position and respect they hold within Malian music, etc.
I understand that there is irony in GFOTY's character and irony does mean you can sometimes get away with saying extreme things if the end result is ultimately that you're criticising something.
But I don't think in this instance it seems like anything's being criticised, it doesn't seem that nuanced, it's just replicating ugly views using language that is clearly racist.
I mean, I doubt that GFOTY is "a racist", much like I doubt Bjork is a racist when she used the N-word. But it's still racist language and should be called out as such.
Probably quite tricky for GFOTY, because it's bullshit if she doesn't apologise for it, but that would also mean breaking character.
I wonder what she/the label will do, if anything? The Quietus and now FACT have called her "PC Music's GFOTY" rather than just "GFOTY", so the whole label is (somewhat unfairly) being brought into it, which I can't imagine they're too thrilled about.
