the k-pop band f(x) released an album today, and the main track reminds me so much of the sound PCM are used to make. we all have seen it on minor djs and producers, but i think kpop and PC Music are so distant, yet, listen to this:
what do you guys think?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZa4yre0uEk this is another k-pop affiliated thing that is a lil pc-esque. I'm not sure if it's a case of influence or just parallel thought, but it's definitely itneresting how two distinct scenes are moving in sorta similar directions. Tho I think it should be noted that it's much more likely PC Music is taking a page out of K-pop's book than the other way around.

OMG I remember when that came out the hate was unbelievable I think tho don't quote me that at first there were more dislikes then likes And I totally agree that PC Music and K/J-Pop share some similar aesthetics and sounds also heard that the kid singing is related maybe daughter tho unsure. P.S. Hitchhiker totally kills that song my fav is the christmas teaser.

G. play kpop and jpop songs live before, so maybe those are some of his influences.

i'm pretty sure A. G. is a huge fan of Girls' Generation. you can listen the beggining of "Sowoneul Malhaebwa" at the beggining of "What I Mean". just pay attention:
it's faint, but it's there.

I figured PC Music was taking a note from KPOP and JPOP. There has been songs that would've been considered PC Music-ish. I think a big one would be the cutesy aesthetic that majority of the KPOP groups do. LIke Girls Generation's "Oh" or Wonder Girls' "Tell Me" or anything of that sort really. I don't even think that KPOP producers even notice that while they've tried to draw inspiration from different music scenes, they've created something completely new. Same in a sense of PC Music as well. They created something completely new and different.
With that being said Lewis Cancut & Swick have been making PC Music-ish type music since like 2011. I live for their posts on soundcloud. I forever promo them

Also let's not forget—many KPOP hit songs are written by Swedish/Norwegian producers.... (as are American hit songs hehe)

I don't want to sound delusional but I can notice some PCM resemblance when the beat drops in this song, Soap by Melanie Marinez youtu.be/eFU_wJes-xE

I thought I was listening to an A.G. Cook / SOPHIE production when I first heard this Chris Brown & Tyga track. The rest of the song doesn't maintain quite the same feel but it's still dope. Finn Diesel included it in his SXSW set too.

How does this song remind you of PC Music? I hear some FM synthesis in the chords and bassline, which obviously SOPHIE and PC use to get their favorite timbres, but to me this is an obvious attempt at making a deep house K-pop song in the style of Disclosure. Even the pitched vocal stuff going on the background has been around for ages before PC got going, and the way it's done here isn't nearly at PC levels of crazy. Unlike this next song: I can see how this might be associated with PC music: the vocal manipulation is for sure turned up to about 9 here (unlike "Kiss" or "I Don't Wanna/Let's Do It" by GFOTY which are 11), but again I don't discern anything that indicates an obvious influence. Getting more of a Baauer/DJ Snake vibe from this. This is actually the closest thing I've heard on this thread to a song that may have been directly inspired by PC Music – or in this case, SOPHIE (bubble sounds ftw). But can't confirm because this kind of drop has been around for a while now, though Melanie's producers certainly do a very realistic/SOPHIE-esque job of synthesizing bubble sounds on this one. Wouldn't be surprised if they'd just heard Lemonade and were going for a similar thing. DJ Mustard (producer of said Chris Brown & Tyga track) listening to PC Music is in my mind highly doubtful, though perhaps it's the case. However, he's been pushing this kind of instrumental well before they were on the map, though admittedly he too uses the same kinds of synths. For example, the bass synth that Mustard uses on pretty much every beat he does (including this one) is almost identical to the bass synth on "Nothing More To Say" by SOPHIE, and the sound of the main twinkly riff here was probably created via FM synthesis, which SOPHIE and Cook are very fond of in their own productions. **disclaimer af** no intention to offend or belittle any opinions expressed here, it's just very important to me to distinguish between artists that have been inspired by PC Music (Liz, Manicure Records crew, &c.) and artists who are merely sonically similar. It can be confusing because the PC crew are such a hybrid of styles and influences, and use a lot of sounds and styles that have been around for quite some time. Ditto what y'all were saying about Kpop and Jpop influencing A.G. Cook, and not the other way around just yet. I get the feeling Cook (along with many other producers) worships Yasutaka Nakata, Kyary's producer, as well as his contemporaries over in Asia.
