I mean the person that portrays QT is obviously a performance artist. I think theres a lot more to what QT does than people think (not in terms of her dj skill of course). As a performance artist I am sure QT has at least some input into the songs she "dj'd", the clothes she wears, etc. I feel like people don't give Hayden Dunham (the girl who portrays QT) enough credit. I also feel like there is a lot more of a narrative QT is trying to portray then what most people boil QT down to which is "satire of men objectifying women as sexual objects". The way I see it is QT is one of the many things PC Music and their affiliates create to give life to hyperrealist images/visuals/ideas. I get that A. G. Cook and Sophie "are QT", but Hayden Dunham, as the character QT, is also an integral part to the collaboration and people acting as if "QT" is an object created by the two men and not also a character that Hayden Dunham is portraying through performance art sucks. Yes agreed. It's not like she is a random girl that AG/SOPHIE are dressing up, she is a designer/artist and her aesthetic definitely comes through in QT. The selections were fun for sure. She did seem awkward but I guess that was made to be part of the performance with the voice overs. She seemed more in the zone at the QT show where she read the magazine. I also think her involvement is an interesting indicator of PC music's connections to the art/fashion world (along with HD being part of LOGO and MEAT, Finn D at DIS, Alis Pelleschi in Serious Thugs, etc). I think those connections are overlooked in the narrative that they are " bedroom producers"; they have a lot of resources.

I hope that someone's taking advantage of these reloops to record the video for posterity? I don't think I'll be able to live with myself if in three days time I can't watch QT bathed in (de)light while Anamanaguchi plays.

Yes exactly!!! It might've been because I was extremely tired at the time but I just found QT's dj set so entrancing! I agree though she seemed more in the zone at the QT show. I feel like at the big SXSW event we will get some more of that type of performance.
Also agree on the multiple connections PC Music has! Their use of multimedia to enhance performance and music is always so interesting and so much work is put into it.

ryan hemsworth, SOPHIE, and some local austin chiptunes artists were backstage. there wasn't even a green room for any of the artists so I literally caught AG Cook waiting in line for the bathroom and talked to him for a good 10 mins about music production. very good showcase, looking forward to seeing the rest of them and SOPHIE this thursday. anything from your chat with AG you'd like to share? I'd be very interested to know

It was pretty basic conversation, I was just happy to meet him. He said he uses logic and doesn't like the newest versions, and that he uses reaktor as well. As you'd expect he experiments a lot with his sound design. He said PC Music would be at SXSW a lot this week, and it was good I came early to the show. I tried talking to him after the show but it was 3am and I think they were just trying to get out of there.
I'm going to see him again today and tomorrow. I would love to ask Hayden Dunham some questions though, about how she chooses her visual aesthetic. And I'd like to ask Cook how PC music got to be such a robust network of talent. (QT is/was a design student at NYU, Finn Diesel is an editor for DIS Magazine I'm pretty sure, Hannah Diamond helps design covers for singles, SOPHIE and AG Cook have some interesting sound choices, and they have a LOT of websites with hidden stuff in the code as well.)

Yeah, great sets all around. Was surprised what a beast Maxo turned out to be on the keys. Really really really want a soundboard recording of these. Like, really though.

imo qt's set was a huge disappointment, although i couldnt care less that she wasnt really djing. all that matters is the music is good
anyway... the power rankings!
NO. 1: ag cook (amazing remixes, song choices, and edits of his best songs) NO. 2: gfoty (really silly and fun) NO. 3: maxo (just great, maxo is always great) NO. 4: finn diesel (a bit disappointing! dirty pop was so good, i was expecting more original content) NO. 5: spinee (i like spinee, but this was very meh) NO. LAST PLACE: qt (;_;)

in retrospect a. g.'s probably my fav set of Dog Food too, especially as an indicator that he hasn't given up his weird side. that trance remix of bronze is amazing though. I like them all though. Also I love the whole set but that PC-sounding song hidden in Finn's set is fantastic
EDIT: Also that boom clap remix is the best

If you can catch Sophie live this year do it. I saw him and Ag Cook today at a pitchfork showcase, and his set just blew me away with how weird and yet dancey it was. I got a can of QT as well, I'll update with some pics tmrw
