It's early but it sounds like overall turnout was down, mostly on the Democratic side. How can people not turn out to vote against Donald Trump? Of course voter repression could have played a huge part in that. And the media won't be covering those stories, too busy publishing puff pieces about Ivanka Trump. Barf.

"Vote for me because I'm not the other guy" is hardly an inspiring campaign message. Clinton had no answer for the millions of Americans who are still feeling the impact of the economic collapse, who are working longer and earning less, and getting priced out of their homes. Trump had an answer - the wrong answer - but one that was good enough for a large swath of uneducated bigots. Liberals have been burying their heads in the sand for the past 8 years and now we're all paying the price. The next few years are going to be critical to saving the American left but at least I'm more optimistic on that front than I was in 2002. The whole reason the Daily Show became a liberal institution back then was because it was the only source of widespread opposition to Bush, all the Democratic leaders rolled over for him - including Hillary, of course. (I was like 13 or so, and it was still obvious) I don't see that happening with Trump (unless there is another huge-scale terrorist attack to scare everyone into subservience) but it's important that new leaders step up and that they're unafraid to address hate and suppression head on. And for the love of god can this country PLEASE do something about our voting/electoral systems, this is no way to run a gigantic country with the world's most diverse population at all.

Me and my Jewish family are learning to shoot. Lol. There are KKK rallies happening near us. I encourage everyone to ditch liberalism and move to the left, to communism. Come to Brazil.

I was thinking about getting a gun too. But then I remembered I'm tall, big, and dark af. If the police see my black ass with a gun on my side, license or not, I'll probably be a dead man. And I rather not be a hashtag lol. I'm not ready for that yet.
Plus capitalism isn't that bad. The system just needs to be changed so that the costs of living shouldn't be so high. We can start that by lowering house prices.

A lot of Trump supporters just realized that "ObamaCare" is just the nickname Republican elites gave for the Affordable Care Act and now they are actually realizing their mistakes. And tbh it's not their fault most his supporters are lower class white peoplein middle America with no higher education. Now they're actually realizing they've been on "ObamaCare" the entire time. TBH this was news to me too cause my parents work/worked for our state so we have like a different health insurance. Imagine how shook all these people were when they realized what is going to happen. I don't wanna say I'm scared but like honestly I am, and just on certain things. I live in Massachusetts so I think I'm pretty safe but who knows.

My hope right now is that Republicans will overreach and be unpopular and then Trump will turn on them to try and save his own popularity. Either they'll get nothing done or they'll have to bring Democrats into the fold to get anything passed. Of course this is also incumbent on Democrats not folding like they did in the Bush years, but considering how Hillary was raked over the coals for her Iraq vote I think they will be smarter this time.

My fear is the Republican Party turning on Trump for any reason (you know he'll give plenty) and impeaching him, making Pence the POTUS. Pence is way worse than Trump.
