My hope right now is that Republicans will overreach and be unpopular and then Trump will turn on them to try and save his own popularity. Either they'll get nothing done or they'll have to bring Democrats into the fold to get anything passed. Of course this is also incumbent on Democrats not folding like they did in the Bush years, but considering how Hillary was raked over the coals for her Iraq vote I think they will be smarter this time. My fear is the Republican Party turning on Trump for any reason (you know he'll give plenty) and impeaching him, making Pence the POTUS. Pence is way worse than Trump. I don't think Trump is gonna last the rest of the year. And tbh all his policies come from Pence. Republicans are already getting annoyed with him and he's not even in office yet.

I kinda feel bad for Melania and Barron, though. She seems so lost all the time, and Barron is just a kid.

It's only been like a couple days and Trump is signing a bunch of executive orders and basically one by one destroying what Obama has built and destroying everything we've protested for and honestly I'm scared of my family losing the house and not being able to get anymore financial aid. Like, seriously everything is falling apart. He just signed they Keystone Pipeline Order which gives the permission for oil companies to build a pipeline in Native American territory and basically leave a bunch of Native Americans with no home and potentially risk surrounding towns and neighborhoods with dirty water. It's literally only been a couple days. Like ugh. This just adds on to the amounts of homophobia and racism people like me have to deal with already. This tew much.

I feel physically ill right now with everything that's happening. Steve Bannon, a white supremacist who has said that he doesn't want his children going to school with "whiny Jews" and who has advocated for literally "destroying the state," is essentially the president of the United States operating through the figurehead of a clueless kleptocrat who had to have the Geneva Convention explained to him by Angela Merkel over the phone the other day. This Muslim ban is vile, and the fact that even green card holders who have gone through years of vetting are being detained upon arrival in American airports just because they're of a certain faith and are from certain Muslim-majority countries (except for countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt in which Trump has documented financial stakes) is testament to how fucked minorities are going to be in Trump's America. It's so fucking sad.

DISCLAIMER: I can be considered white-passing so I am by no means saying that the struggles I've faced are on the same level as POC who don't have the privilege of passing as white. Anyhow, here's basically a condensed form of an essay I wrote after this all happened.
I've heard many (mainly) white people say that they never knew that some of their white friends, acquaintances, and family could be so racist. You may have never known, but it wasn't too far beneath the surface. POC have to face constant micro-aggressions (anywhere from "wow you look so exotic!" to "if the US gets in a conflict with the Middle East, who's side would you take?"). It wasn't only in private either. Many of you have been around POC when these things have been said. If you stood up for them, good, thank you for your support. If you tried not to notice it, tried to block it out, tried to ignore it, tried to pretend it didn't happen, or tried to be a bystander, you were part of the problem. Stop trying to ignore your racist white friends, acquaintances, and family. You're making it worse.
Before you guys attack me, this isn't directed at all white people. If you personally feel attacked then it probably applies though.

when it comes to race I take the stoic view of like... yeah it subjectively is really shitty to live through this period and see the people around you suffering or showing themselves to be hateful, but objectively... slavery "ended" 150 years ago. And on an even bigger scope, civilization has existed for centuries with racial inequality accepted as a fact of life. Not that it's hopeless but you have to take the full view, it will probably take another generation just to make more white people less reflexively shitty toward others. The whole idea of whiteness comes from a need to distinguish ourselves from other races anyway, so funny enough racism is pretty much the only overarching "white culture" that exists.
that said what really bugs me is that the media has played such a big part in promoting these "alt right" fascists and refuses to acknowledge its part. because there is no effing way people would know who Richard Spencer was if he wasn't constantly namedropped, I certainly didn't and I read all kinds of crazy fringe websites for fun. These lifelong losers would be talking to 30 people in a rented conference room if the media didnt promote them and their cause in the name of "warning" us. Hell, there were probably more delegates at the Democratic Socialists convention the other weekend than there were Nazis at the whole rally. imo their presence should only be noted in connection with their approval of Trump, otherwise we really don't need to know their thoughts on anything.

Yeah but, given everything that happened some years ago, isn't it completely baffling that nazis still exist? And, to add insult to injury, they're American? Like, the country that was the most anti-nazi of them all?

Like, the country that was the most anti-nazi of them all? Well despite the excuse of rallying around history, most of them are anti-American, in the sense that the country was based on liberalism* and they dislike the founding documents. (I suppose that puts them 1 IQ point above the paranoid militiamen who think they're patriotic.) There's definitely a self loathing factor to be examined there. They reach for Nazism in particular because it's the one way they know how to get a reaction out of people, especially when they're harassing Jewish people on Twitter which seems to be the majority of their activity. And lets face it a lot of them aren't THAT well read, American history classes aren't very far reaching, and they're not gonna go researching the history of far right movements to find a more fitting example to emulate. *in the general philosophical sense. Obviously it took a long time for the law to inscribe that as reality for the rest of the country, which is another fig leaf they like to use to cover up their anti-liberal, anti-democratic views

I just wanted to point out why those people are getting any attention, which is because they're completely anatopistic.
