Thanks for this amazing discussion guys! Didn't think people would be replying so much! So another question, I found that by playing QT for people first really set them up for more.. what songs do you think really explain the ideas and open up the pathways in the brain to appreciate PC? Likewhat songs do you believe to have the highest amount of PC structure, but the lowest amount of demand and attention needed? Side-note: Remember when McDonald's had their commercial for introducing lemonade to their menu and SOPHIE's Lemonade was the back track? I flipped the first time I saw it and then I just hated McDonald's more than I already do right now. lemonade is overrated anyways tho

I'm black Caribbean and my closest friends are too and the areas we grew up in are like ghetto suburbs. So like even though we like other things mostly you'll always hear hip hop/ rnb and Caribbean music everywhere and it's always been like that in the urban areas in my state so for me it's kinda hard to get people to like PC Music lol. I recently did the Walk For Hunger in Boston which is like a 20 mile charity walk. I played music out a speaker in my bag. There was thousands of people from all over the state there and hip hop is one of the biggest genres in the state then Caribbean music cause there's a huge amount of Caribbean people here and then EDM and country. I played some Number 1 Angel, Blame It On You & White Roses. People actually started dancing to 3AM. I played 9 (After Coachella) and people liked it and even asked for the song title. I played Broken Flowers and that got a good reaction. I stayed away from anything too risky cause it would throw people off lmao. Super Natural, people knew that one. I'm not surprised about that lol.
To get my friends to listen. I play whatever is closest to R&B/Hip Hop. Luckily my friends already listen to EDM so they're open to new sounds. But overall it has to be mixed with something else I guess to be received well with them.

Next time I try to introduce someone to PCM, I'll start with this repertoire: Broken Flowers, Lemonade, Bitch I'm Madonna, Beautiful, Hi, Hey QT, IDL and I Don't wanna/Let's Do It.

Some crazy elitism in this thread lol. People just have different tastes, and PC music does get pretty out there. Share YOUR PATHWAY ASSIMLATION!! Dismissing them when pitchfork started pushing them -> Liking Bubs (A. G. x OPN) more than Rush despite being a huge OPN fan when he released both tracks at the same time -> Listening to everything on their SoundCloud.

unfortunately most of my friends almost exclusively listen to rock and they've all dismissed pc music as "pop trash". they're the type of people that dislike pop music just for the sake of disliking pop music though. the closest i've gotten is getting my brother super into hudson mohawke lmao. Share YOUR PATHWAY ASSIMLATION!! oh man, well i discovered pc music in late 2014/early 2015 when this person on tumblr reblogged hey qt. my very first reaction to hearing it was "wow this is kind of terrible but also really interesting and different??" (and tbh i still think the production on hey qt is lackluster). then i started listening to a bunch of old hannah diamond and gfoty and eventually fell in love with most of the pc music crew. and then like a year after that i started listening to sophie and now here we are

Because ive been obsessed for years and has a personality that will force this on my friends knowing they wont like it (coming from me) which makes me laugh. Its part me playing pc a lot and being just being me (obnoxious)
Pink and blue came up on my sc stream fell in love with PC then. Then Sophie hard came on my stream i loved pc so much at that point that i knocked hard calling sophie a rip off can you believe it?
Then i started to listen to more sophie i knocked him for a good week. hard isnt my favorite by him. I just like the end it reminds me of mario kart 1
But i love n respect him now

People are exposed to what they like. Time will tell if they truly like it or not. (Usually almost instantly) I think it depends on the person obviously. If they dont like pop why would they like underground pop?
Time will tell in another way. My niece is 9 she dabs and likes the hip hop dances. Her friends are the same way and she does not like the music I play. In that sense she doesnt like it because she already prefers a genre something she can relate to with the people around her. My sister likes rap but she tried to play radio hits when my niece was growing up. I guess my niece got tired of it or school caught up with her and she was intrigued by hip hop due to someone else or something that made her like it. Or whats cool ya know?
I mean who here likes country. Or bagpipes. People like it because they are exposed to it. Not saying its unlikeable no different than PC. Time exposes people to a lot. I grew up liking hip hop but i branched out once i was really handy online. I joined gaia (avatar forum site) when i was 13 and that was after i grew out of habbo. Then i was listening to punk bands and indie bands lady sovereign hahahah

Pink & Blue / Attachment --> PC Music hour-long Disown mix --> there really wasn't much else out besides Bronze and AG's remix of some guy's song and a couple lower tracks (like, there was other stuff, but nothing really ear-catching to me at the time) --> Hey QT when it came out --> I guess everything since idk

I've posted previously about my experience discovering PC Music, but one specific aspect that drew me in that I probably didn't mention before (I don't think I was fully aware of it) was the lyrical content of Friday Night, which felt really transgressive and queer to me, although at the time I couldn't have articulated this. Something about how abrasively sexual the lyrics are and how I hadn't heard many female musicians use such frank language, especially the way it contrasts with the music video which looks pretty mainstream and unremarkable on the surface.
ETA I thought I was straight at the time I discovered PC Music, whereas now I'm queer, so this part of why I grew to like it in the first place has gained significance in retrospect. Not to mention I met a lot of my queer friends indirectly through PC Music events.
