People act like Charli’s swindling PC Music out of material in some weird act of dilettantism when she’s only a few notches above them on the totem pole to begin with and clearly fighting against WMG at every turn to be seen as something other than a topline writer

I agree with her but not really something to say to someone you're trying to collaborate with. I feel like Charli is taking her musical route more for fun and less for business, which is kind of sad when we've seen her tackle both before. Im pissed that there isn't a tour for Pop2. Real shame. But i guess since it's all features, it wouldn't really work so well. idk The Number 1 Angel tour was a lot of fun and was sold out. |

when have we ever seen Charli XCX successfully juggle 'business' and 'fun'? she has never had a true moment as a successful pop businesswoman... which is fine and all, but i don't know if i believe the trope that she's super desperate for success and accolades

I think her ideal business-aspect would be selling songs (like when she wanted to place "twenty songs" on other people's records in 2017? And she got two on the Blondie record....and a single that didn't even make Camila's album). I'm thinking that in an ideal situation, she would use that money to fund the music she wants, which is why she gets pissed with most leaks. I mean...if she could get Debbie Harrie to record a song she wrote as a teenager, I honestly feel like she could sell even some of her shitty old demos to some random pop star. When the songs she did with Rick Knowles leaked in 2014 (or 2013), that's why she was upset. Success itself for her own work doesn't seem to be her biggest goal. "Boom Clap" aside, since she wrote that before her first album & it was a surprise hit, most of her appearances / smaller "hits" feel so throw-away. |
