Hey Liz, first off thanks for visiting our little corner of the internet, it’s nice to see. All these insider tidbits on future plans are nice but I’m interested to know a little bit about how you ended up where you are now? Discogs paints a somewhat confusing portrait where sometime back in 2012 you came into existence doing vocals for this (a jam, btw) and then suddenly you were on a Zedd song and signed to Mad Decent. You seem like one of those artists who just sort of emerged out of the ether, and while that’s obviously never true of anyone I’m curious about what actually goes on behind the scenes in instances like that. Just bought “Rule The World” on iTunes, hope that extra tick on the number of purchases counts as a vote of confidence Yeah! I've been writing and working with producers since I was like 13 years old. I've made hundreds of songs. It's been a long journey and I've always tried to make something of each opportunity that's come my way. Life is like a domino effect- You never know what something is going to lead to next. During the particular rise of EDM in 2012, a lot of dj's were reaching out, asking for my vocals and accapellas because they wanted to make original songs rather than using existing samples. It was kind of a new thing that EDM was blowing up in the mainstream and so it was pretty natural that your name would be passed on to other dj/producers. It was a cool opportunity making songs with people like Zedd, Rusko and Audrey because it all helped raise my profile in that scene as a vocalist. However, I didn't want to be known as an EDM guest vocalist because I had been working towards being a pop artist my whole life and saw a much bigger plan. It was such a dream when Paul Devro at Mad Decent/Jeffree's wanted to put out my original material. I had been experimenting making 90's/early 2000's R&B that year and Paul just so happened to want to put out a release like that on Jeffree's. We figured out how to conceptualize the project as well as A&R it in a way that allowed me to mix in aesthetics that inspired me and work with producers I truly loved and admired. It was especially validating because I was such a fan of the brand and I find the label to have a lot of grassroots level soul. It's been special to have Diplo's support as well. Nothing happens over night! Thanks for buying the single. Means a lot.

Another quick question - How did you come across this forum? Again awesome to have you here Liz! I first saw this forum back when you guys were posting rips of the demo of When I Rule the World that was in the diplo and friends mix...I think last December? I was flattered and kept checking in on what you were saying about it hehe

Diplo is great! What about Lido, Colta, Djema Djemba or any of the producers on Just Like You EP? Baltimore club and UK garage influences in your music is a high point. It'd be cool for more of that. Yeah, I have a new song prod by Lido! and it has a cool rap feature on it. Still writing with Santell, MNDR, and JC etc. I've been experimenting with other producers I hadn't gotten a chance to work with yet, but they are all in the same underground music realm and all collab together. There's going to be a ton of classic LIZ mixed in with future sounds. I just wanted this first one out as a refresh and because I really believe in it as one that can cross over.Thank you replying! This sounds so awesome and When I Rule the World definitely has that crossover appeal.

Hi Liz! I love the song! You said there were multiple versions of the song that you scrapped until you got just right. Did this mean redoing the ENTIRE song, or just making a few changes? Also, did you assist in production decisions/were you there for production? no, we just kept knit picking lol...had to be juuuuuust bratty enough. SOPHIE had the production on lock, although I did decide to have the drums come in on the first chorus whereas before, the song had a slower build. needed it to hit hard right away for radio and the clubs!

When I Rule the World is very catchy, been listening to it non stop all day haha, very awesome music and Just Like You is very tranquil, very poppy ?? to me your music reminds me of the early 2000's and it sounds awesome, cannot wait for your debut album and quick question haha, do you like / watch anime? Lol yeah, you're spot on with the early 00's inspo. I love Sailor Moon...I relate to her!

Hi LIZ, are we ever going to get to hear the waveracer collab? I listen to that 1 minute he played in his boiler room set. -heart emoji- If you have the chance to open the show for three different artists/bands, who would they be?

Yeah, I love Henrik's sound because it's bright, colorful, fun and young, yet sophisticated and sonically mixed well, with tinges of tropical vibes. I rly can't talk about what PC Music has planned as that's their own stuff to share on their own time. All I know is they're definitely going to be going to the next level. Excited to watch it.

I'm definitely putting out the Wave Racer collab...I think next actually. It's called Queen Of Me. I would love to open for Marina & the Diamonds, Gwen Stefani, Stromae or Katy Perry.
