Holly Herndon, Joyce Manor, Mike Paradinas (aka μ-Ziq), Max Tundra, HEALTH, Owen Pallett and Will Wiesenfeld all follow PC Music on twitter Max Tundra is a big fan. Mike Paradinas also included lots of stuff by them in his XLR8R mix and has talked about them in interviews lots. On a similar tip I have it on good authority that Aphex Twin was at Danny L Harle's show in Manchester, and Bjork was at their Ace Hotel showcase thingy in London a while back (though neither of those necessarily suggest approval just curiosity) Actress was gonna put out an early Sophie single on Werkdiscs at one point. He also invited Sophie to support him around the time R.I.P. came out. The whole LuckyMe lot have supported them from the start but particularly Eclair Fifi. Evian Christ has had Life Sim, Danny L Harle and Sophie play at his Trance Party nights before. Oneohtrix Point Never obvs did a track with A.G. Cook but he's also into Sophie and Felicita's stuff. I'm sure I'm forgetting others.

Who's authority?? Bjork being a fan makes sense I guess, but Aphex being interested at all blows my mind

I'm not too surprised in Aphex Twin being interested; SOPHIE is just the gay Aphex Twin tbh. Blows my mind that I was also at that show tho

I can't take Grimes seriously since she thought a dril tweet was a quote from the Shining
but seriously when did Sophie pretend to be a girl? I thought we were past this knee jerk reaction shit

Names have nothing to do with gender. He probably has a reason for using SOPHIE as an alias, the same way GFOTY, felicita, Maxo, SPINEE, etc. People read too much into stuff.

like i agree that women are underrepresented when it comes to production and i get that names are typically coded as being masculine, feminine, or androgynous, but this seems like a pretty gender essentialist remark.. also not sure if grimes should be seen as a reputable source to speak on appropriation when she's guilty of it in like all art that she produces

I love Grimes's music, and it's a shame that she's showing this to be her true personality. She seems like a very mean person, or at least, that is the way the article presents her (unintentionally). Visions will still be one of my favorite albums, but now I don't know about the person herself. I felt the same way when Azealia Banks started to be the mess she is right now. I love her music, and some of her statements are really poignant, but I can't defend her as a person. If your speech about one topic is really good, well placed and though-inducing, but you are calling people "faggots" on Twitter, it affects your speech directly. As Grimes herself said (I didn't read the article, but that is quoted here), she shouldn't have said that.

That's just some dumb shit to say. And it wouldn't be the first time from her...

Keep in mind, it's pretty likely that Grimes doesn't follow SOPHIE or PCM anywhere close to as intently as any of us do. She probably just read the feminine appropriation article and based her opinion on that + the name + her own experience as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
Edit: and lest we forget, there WAS the time when SOPHIE got a drag performer (Ben Woozy) to stand in for him, which could be read as "pretending to be a girl" and IMO was a bit of a misstep.

Damn. Y'all some true stans!!! Defending SOPHIE to the death.
What grimes said was accurate. I can't believe people as progressive as this group would knock her point. It is possible to enjoy something while also finding some aspects of it to be problematic. She wasn't saying he can't exist. Chill.
