I see PC Music and Sophie as part of a larger wave in electronic music that places visceral sound and its design at the forefront instead of rhythmic complexity or multiple layers of instrumental detail. 0PN's new record, Lorenzo Senni, even stuff like Arca and Objekt to an extent represent this tendency to me as well. Unlike the electronic music that was in vogue a decade ago like Autechre or Oval (who I love) this isn't stuff you need to necessarily interpret or "get" to have a reaction to. AG Cook's compositions are often sparse and spacious yet make heavy use of affecting, powerful synths and associations that create an instant impression in the listener. A lot of PC tracks hardly emphasize percussion at all, or just use a single kick drum, opting instead to highlight the huge bright, melodic synthlines. I think this ties in with what Sophie has talked about in terms of viewing music as a chemical process like gastronomy that involves examining and exploiting the possibilities of a single raw sound. I think we will see more electronic music in a variety of contexts that draws from this basis. Also I just listened to that Marshmello song and LOL, this is a wholesale rip-off of PC Music's aesthetic watered down into something more straightforward and generic. I'm sure A.G. and co. are laughing their asses of about it but man it's too bad where we don't live in a world where you can turn on a top 40 station and hear Fanta. I thought you were exaggerating about Marshmello's song (or at least hoping you were) but it's really, let's say, heavily influenced by PCM. It's good that we can already measure PCM's influence by this and other things, but it's sad that it's not PCM per se. Also: are they really still doing that whole "EDM-performer-that-always-uses-a-helmet" thing? It's been old for a while.

To be fair, I think a lot of mainstream pop music already sounds similar to this and has been using the vocal cut-up and squelchy synth thing for a while...but the producer is definitely aware of PC Music or else it's a crazy coincidence

The chopped vocals are a super common thing in pop music. I feel it's more likely just a coincidence that some of his songs sound super similar to PC Music, a crazy coincidence but one all the same. Most of the trap songs are starting to sound like this tbh. Marshmello is all about the persona and becoming popular. He was a relatively unknown DJ that just rebranded cause it's literally about the brand in the trap scene now. It's a carefully crafted persona and sound so might explain some stuff. Like this has always kinda been his style since the first track he posted to SoundCloud back in 2015.

Like this has always kinda been his style since the first track he posted to SoundCloud back in 2015. Don't forget the likes of Slushii &a Chet Porter. I've heard tons of EDM songs that could honestly fall for a PC Mus inspired track. PCM didn't really become known in the EDM scene till 2015/2016. When Product and other stuff were being released. By then we already were seeing people have that influence in sound. By then we had Slushii and Marshmello and chet Porter making similar music for years on SoundCloud. Even before pc music Lewis Cancut & Swick already had songs on SoundCloud of a very similar sound and they still make that music. There a couple progressive house dj's that have made some pc Mus sounding tracks. I think this sound has been dabbled on and is fabled on. Even if we think pop songs in general, we can probably find a bunch that came out before PC Mus that could pass as that nowadays. We think of Nadia Oh, Some of Nicki Minsk's pop songs, Britney's spears and just pop music in general is filled with these types of tracks. As music moves on We will get the regular that just happens to sound similar and then like we'll get the ones that sound waaaaaaayyyy too exact to a certain pc music producer. The sound and production style itself is pretty popular but never was it's own seperate thing till the whole pc music wave and even then there was already a small-ish community on SoundCloud doing it. But we'll probably hear if people are trying to be exact or drew inspiration cause the songs will not only sound similar but we'll hear how they tried to recreate some of the filtered noises that these guys use.

The new Tinie Tempah + Tinashe sounds like stuff inspired by PC Music a lil (I'm always uncomfortable to decrease the degrees of separation)

Tiga's "Bugatti" sounds to me like a Kane West + SOPHIE collab (incidentally, Kane remixed the track Life Sim, actually).

Actually I think Tiga might be one of their inspirations, not the opposite.
