New Rihanna record is killer, especially the first half. It's had to grow on me but it's good. It hit me on the first listen, and I didn't even consider myself a Rihanna fan before. I love the cold, minimal production and slightly jazzy touches. The 50's style stuff doesn't do it as much for me but it's still better than most R&B I've heard lately and her vocals are great. The only song that's outright bad is Woo. Even the Tame Impala cover is awesome and fits with the flow of the record rather than something tacked on to boost the length (and is even better imo)

The new Rihanna album is ok. It has some vaporwave elements to it that I particularly like.

The only songs I liked at first listen were Needed Me and Consideration. Amount those now is Pose and Goodnight Gotham. This album was sort of a test stage for Rihanna. This is her first album writing every on every song except the cover. I see the vapor wave touches. The producer of Kiss It Better said Travis had a large influence over the sound of the album. Removed the house songs she wrote with Sia, Azealia and other big Edm guys. After hearing it, the Travis Scott presence is there. The worst song for me is Higher. I think she did bad jobs and the vocals were cracking at a failed attempt to sound like she was feeling it. The album only sold 460 real copies so I guess it wasn't well received enough to buy.

back to the original topic of this thread, Im really surprised nobody's mentioned Lady Gaga. I'd go out on a limb and say that Bad Romance is one of the best pop songs of the 21st century so far, especially because she brought back synthpop.
But my all time fav pop song will always be no matter what the human league's don't you want me.

I think Lady Gaga is overrated. I totally agree, but the first album was at least good and innovative. The first album was a breath of fresh air in the pop music scene. After that, it was just gimmick after gimmick.

I think Lady Gaga is overrated. I totally agree, but the first album was at least good and innovative. You guys are nuts, Born This Way was probably her best album. She literally gave us Catholic Queen meets High Fashion meets Raver from the 80's. That album was life. The analogies and metaphors, the play on words. That album was a blessing. ARTPOP was good but it was kinda lacking her initial creativity but it is her first album where she wasn't high or drunk during the entire process. Her first album was good BUT at the same time it was pretty reflective of the blonde girl mixing pop and hip hop, though each song is excellent on it. The Fame Monster has to be the best collection. The Monster part of the album is so good. I think Lady Gaga was overrated when she was at the top of her game. When she made an album that was completely her and not under the influence, people kinda just forgot about her. People forgot ARTPOP even happened. That album is really good. But it's all opinion I guess. I'm just mad that Partynauseous was never released or leaked.

Really loving Beyoncé's new song Formation. The video and everything. What it means for black people globally is so powerful. I just love it. It speaks a lot to the soul.

ARTPOP just pisses me off, because she's trying to be like 'oh im doing this as art, look at me and my good taste' but then she has a lead single that says 'i'm literally in this only for adoration money and fame' Kinda rubs me the wrong way, you feel? Her first album was really interesting and good because she tool the blond girl pop hip hop trope and turned it into something with substance. Born this way took something that already had substance and made it into a pop phenomenon, which is a lot less interesting imho.
