It's kind of sad hearing something that wants so desperately to be something else. Finding your own creative voice can be a long and arduous road, but taking someone else's vision and passing it off as your own isn't the right way to go about it. You'll never do a better SOPHIE than SOPHIE, but I'm almost certain you can do a better IGGLY than SOPHIE if you start being more honest with yourself.

It just sounds like SOPHIE had influence. There's nothing wrong with being inspired by someone. There are many major differences between IGGLE and SOPHIE. For example, this doesn't have any of the pop that SOPHIE usually has (with the exception of Elle, UNISIL, and MSMSMSM), and it sounds more like a hybrid of trap and idm than the PCM/Sophie/felicita sound. This is only one song by an artist who hasn't (as far as I know) released anything else. I would understand the ripping off SOPHIE claims if he made more songs that sounded a lot like SOPHIE, but we have no idea what their other stuff sounds like. Also your guest name is suspicious. If you're going to give criticism, make it constructive. Your guest name is so suspicious

Honestly it's not very hard to make a Sophie pastiche. Mess around with some of the synths on Logic for a few hours and you'll be able to arrange these kind of squiggly sounds into something that sounds like a rough cut from Product or even the Xtreme Mixology in no time. However the thing that sets Soph apart from the imitators are his attention to detail, knack for pop hooks, the monomachine, use of vocals, stylistic cues etc. Not to mention the fact that he's kind of the one who started this whole thing anyway.
That said, LOL at the troll who thinks that just because someone is coping someone else's sound is some kind of heinous crime. Everyone has to hone their chops somewhere and taking your cues a trailblazer like Sophie isn't a bad place to begin. I guarantee many of your favorite artists started off trying to be like their heroes. The Beatles and Pink Floyd started off just doing blues covers for crying out loud. Also a lot of people were just ripping off the same drum n bass / acid techno sounds throughout the 80's and 90's but some amazing stuff ended up coming out of that too and influencing what we listen to today in electronic music. Picasso said "Good artists copy, great artists steal" for a reason. Iggle is probably just someone developing their sound by working with what sounds fresh at the moment and isn't doing a half bad job either.

I'm sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. I can hear the unstable rising buzz from lemonade, the percussion from hard, and a very very similiar pad complete with the gurgling sounds underneath that sounds nearly identical to the one in MSMSMSM. I also know for a fact that other tracks (this one has no samples afaik) released on CALM use samples ripped straight from SOPHIE's original material. If you don't believe me, listen to "Alfie Casanova- 4play". You can hear samples ripped from SOPHIE's website as well as from the SOPHIE and A.G. remix of YELLE.

Guest users...sheesh I definitely agree that imitation is a necessary part of growth and that IGGLE is actually pretty skilled at what he is doing. And sure I'm being a bit overdramatic, but I'm not trolling. I genuinely think whoever is behind IGGLE has a lot of potential as a good producer. I thought maybe a little push and encouragement to step away from this degree of imitation could be helpful.

Your post came across a little harsh but I feel where you're coming from now. Given some time I think many of these bubblegum bass producers will find their own sound after working at it. Someone like fustian is a good example of someone who I think is taking Sophie-ish sounds and doing something novel with it. Either that or they'll just move on to whatever the next big thing is lol.

I definitely agree about Alfie Casanova, almost all of his songs contain SOPHIE samples that are so prominent and so numerous that I can automatically identify which song it came from. But IGGLE seems different. I just don't think that he's purposely trying to rip off SOPHIE. Yeah, they sound alike, but this person seems to have lots of potential. I didn't disagree with the message of your original comment, I just thought the delivery was very harsh.

It is definitely pastiche - I know very little about music composition and all but I can recognize so many elements from SOPHIE tracks in here... rhythmically its very similar to MSMSMSM, with a very similar pattern of climaxes and drops, even the same sudden no-percussion interlude, the "whip" sounds and the bass are exactly the same as Hard, the DDR style vocal injections ala Hard/Get Higher, those synths at the end about 2 minutes in might as well be sampled from the Won't K remix.... but I enjoy it. Like I'd be infuriated if it was a new Diplo track or something lol but its just a soundcloud song.

It doesn't sound much like Sophie but I don't like the vocals on this one. Instrumental is cool though
