If you're looking for innovative/leftfield uses of sampling you should really check out Matmos. They're probably most famous for working with Björk on Vespertine. Each of their albums revolves around a really specific concept, a lot of times around where they source their samples from. They've done an album where they sourced samples from medical procedures and on their newest one all the sounds come from a washing machine. It's one continuous suite but it's broken up into little segments and it goes into a lot of styles, whether it's more clasically-styled musique concrete, ambient, noise, or just straight bangers. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukqOGGJqtZM - highly recommended

Since we're on the subject: what do you guys think of the sample used in Pretty Green by Spinee? Do you even consider it sampling or more like a cover?

How do people even find songs to sample? It's so weird to me. I know Kanye probably just goes online and clicks through old songs but like still. I think there are songs where you can sample melodies or like musical sounds but to an extent. Sampling is so weird to me.

Funk carioca has, hands down, the BEST sample usage. Diplo curated two funk carioca mixtapes, Favela Strikes Back and Favela On Blast. You should listen to it if you want to know more about it:

This is like sampling heaven tbh. YouTube is my tool then.

Erykah Badu (I think it was her) said that one time she was in his studio and he said to go find a random record that she thought looked interesting and then he made a beat out of it then and there. Guy just knew how to spin samples
