Wow, thank you! incredible find, this stuff is poetry 2 me
“All the works taking place in my head at the moment are new sculptural visions I’ve been having, and I’m not sure what form they might take, but they have to do with enormous industrial proportions of dessert mousse and gummy rubber plastic found on trainers and needle holes and icing sugar coatings being cut. The undersides of gargantuan suspended vessels being lit by motorway floodlights expanding.”

omg I think this might be my favorite Sophie interview ever. credit to Brooke Chroman for such great questions! And thank you for sharing the pictures! I love how he talks about using disinterest with what's presented with you to inspire new innovations... I wish more artists saw the same way. And further elaboration on the idea of music as a construction/sculpture is great, another idea that needs to catch on. Regarding the consumerism theme that was brought up at the end. I certainly think Sophie does it in a more original way than Lady Gaga, or the electroclash movement (which wasn't mentioned but that was pretty much the entire gimmick), or '80s Madonna, because it's not beating you over the head with "HEY LOOK HOW POSTMODERN I AM ;^)" messages. Same with QT - could very easily have been corny, but the advertising angle isn't actually played up that much. My new favorite interview, so well-spoken and explanatory. I love the concept of pop music being the only existing kind of music with "varying degrees of success." It makes you realize that "pop" itself isn't really a certain sound, like rock, hip-hop, etc., but rather a definition of audience reaction, pop(ular) music. What would pop music be classified as if it wasn't popular? That's what's so extraordinary, an entire movement of sound, culture, and creation has revolved around becoming as successful as possible, without a real formula to success. It just happens organically.

Amazing, thank you!
"Yes, it's the same idea with sound waves vibrating on eardrums." Weird, this is exactly what the idea of sculptural sound had me thinking about, I think I posted about it in another thread. I love reading these interviews because I'm always amazed at how well the concepts behind the music have been conveyed. It feels like reading an explanation of my own reaction to the music. I had a similar sensation when I was reading one of the only QT interviews a while back. I'm very impressed by the clarity of artistic vision that allows concepts to be so successfully communicated without using words.

Seemingly unexpected but maybe not totally! The Travel Almanac was launched back in 2011 by journalist/musician John Roberts, who you might recall was the first person to write a dedicated interview with Sophie for Sup Magazine...
