PC Music's been giving me free pop music for a year now, I think I can bear paying 99 cents to support Hannah Diamond.
That tinymixtapes thing really gives me the sense that they're settling all the affairs of the past year and gearing up for a crossover into "proper label" territory, and personally I welcome it. As long as they never forget that there was a time when they put the web addresses of their songs down in the ID3 tags as the album.

It's not the money that I'm griping about. It's more about iTunes (which I don't have). I'd donate daily if they had something set up! I really am excited that they're going to try to make money off it though so they can concentrate on making music and not having side jobs, etc.

I don't know I kinda of like that it's just itunes - especially with the handling of the logo on the site
it's like when Hey QT was a beatport exclusive, I had to sign up and stuff to buy it but I still appreciated the format - dissolving false boundaries of parody and earnestness
the songs is also obviously great

eh I don't mind the iTunes thing so much, but starting over as PC001 seems kind of like an insult to everything that's come out on the label so far. Like 'oh that was the old PC Music this is the new PC Music" but hey at least they didn't start a whole new label like they did with Gamsonite, so that's good at least. Also, a little disappointed on the website for this one, but I guess it's hard to top that Lil Data site.

I guess it remains to be seen it they'll discontinue the free stuff but I don't think they will - stuff like lil data etc. on itunes doesn't seem to make much sense
in a way I think it's kind of good because it levels the field for the more poppy/songy releases. like to look at recent releases - the new Danny Harle or even the much weirder kane west has about double the plays of Thy Slaughter on soundcloud - which I really don't think can be put down to it being half as appealing or half as accessible - and I think "proper" singles makes that sort of situation less likely to happen
