Listening to Lemonade and Hard, I'm amazed by how much attention to detail Sophie pays to his production. There are always countless things going on in his tracks yet every element is produced and engineered so clearly and richly and it never sounds messy/overwhelming. Most PC Music artists (A.G. Cook, EasyFun, GFOTY, Tielsie, Spinee) create very intricate tracks but they lack Sophie's rich sonic quality and texture (like how most things he produces sound like they came from an expensive studio as opposed to a bedroom) and from what I've heard the only other artists that come close to what Sophie does are a lot of Warp producers (Glass Swords-era Rustie, TNGHT, Aphex Twin, OPN), some french producers (Gesaffelstein, Justice). I know that these type of tracks aren't necessarily the goal of PC Music and a lot other great artists, but I was wondering if there are any other producers you guys know of with this kind of intricacy and production value?

Burial is as intricate as they come but he leans towards gritty, bedroom intimacy rather than the clean largeness (?) and simultaneous minimalist maximalism (?) of Sophie. (Sorry for the descriptions - I'm trying to come up with words to describe the sound but it's tough)

I mean festivalcore big room has huge synths, and often it's just a think bass with some basic percussion. Check out the drop of Tujamo & Plastik Funk - WHO (1:30)
Personally I think A.G.'s compositions are as large and well produced, they just often are more maximal in terms of the number of voices. But I do agree, SOPHIE accomplishes amazing things. He is my favorite producer.

I'd throw Cashmere Cat's name out there but i don't know anyone who sounds as rich and metallic as SOPHIE does.

possibly Arca, Dutch E. Germ, NGUZUNGUZU, Fatima Al Qadiri, Kingdom, etc. ...but its difficult to find well produced and intricate music + the 'fun' element of SOPHIE and PC Music also, I think this observation has been made before but SOPHIE (especially Hard) sounds kind of like early grime ?? www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh5tSBJzSDA

i am partial to so so in luv, and think he does music very sophie-esque, with a darkpop aesthetic, but a similar amount of detail
but yeah, i agree with a_m, arca is your next best bet. the dude is a genius

I think there are plenty of producers that are as intricate, plenty that sound as polished/"clean" but he undoubtedly brings it all together in a unique package which is why we all love him.
Also, on the intricacy point I think where you decide to build it in depends a lot on the genre you're working in (for some it might be the melody, others like I guess certain types of house and dubstep it would be the bass and for stuff like 2-Step and footwork it's more the drums side). If you try doing too much on too many fronts it all gets lost. Bearing all that in mind rules are there to be broken and that's what makes music fun/interesting.
SOPHIE is for sure in my favourite producers in the world atm. Arca, El-P, Ariel Rechtshaid and even people like Mumdance recently would be in there too but Jai Paul still just about sneaks top spot for me.
