Hello everyone I am a little stuck and need some advice, back in 1996 I got my first PC for home studio production, when I bought it I made it clear it had to come with a soundblaster card for running VST and audio recording, all was good and I kept using it running cakewalk for the next 19 years and loved it,a couple of weeks ago I was given a Dell GX280 which was far more powerful than what I had been using, the first thing I decided to do was open up my old PC grab the soundblaster and put it in the Dell, to my surprise there was no soundcard and it seemed I had been using an integrated audio chip for over a decade but the latency I was getting was 10mm which is totally usable and which didn't make sense for an integrated chip,in device manager it's listed as a soundblaster, I didn't know sounblaster had integrated chips, now,not being rich and normally skint I started looking for a soundcard and ended up buying the ASUS Xonar DG, it game me a latency of 10mm which was great and all my softsynths performed as they should so I started writing and recording all good,a week later I was ready to start laying down some guitar parts when I discovered the line in and mic in had a half second latency and you cant get rid of it which makes the Xonar unusable. I wrote to their tech people who tried to tell me it was quite normal for the line in and mic in to have a half second delay ? I tried to explain that those of us who use VST find if we are going to have latency problems it's normally on the output when running softsynths live not on the line in ect but the Xonar performs well just cant plug a guitar into it ! so I am looking on eBay for a card that will give me a good latency on the output when running softsynths live and no latency when I plug a guitar into it, the ones I am considering are - Creative SB0060 Sound Blaster Live - or the - Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 4 - if anyone has some advice or experience with these cards would be grateful for your comments. its a shame about the Xonar it runs the softsynths perfectly I can bring up the minimoog and solo as fast as I like no problem but plug a guitar into it its unusable.
Much thanks for any advice.
