Bhad Bhabie is a ... choice. Can 1999 redeem Troye is a bit hit and miss with me. based on the demo of 1999, it’s bland. Charli needs to realize that “pop” music that’s popular now is rap and trap. Her sound that attracts people now is the club PC stuff. This single is not going to be a hit, so it’s pointless trying to replicate something that once was a thing. If I posted this on analboards I would be slaughtered

If I posted this on analboards I would be slaughtered Saying that Girls Like You by maroon 5 is bland as fuck. No idea how the fuck it topped billboard hot 100. Cardi's verse saves it somewhat but still it totally lacks energy. At least 1999 is more upbeat and will have a wicked cool MV. I'm so hoping it'll be like um... Will Smith's will2k but 90s reference. I totally get what you mean tho

Charli is unpopular in the mainstream music world in 2018. Rather than continuing to make club inspired music that she’s said she prefers and her fans do, she and her label are trying to make another hit like boom clap. It’s not going to happen

She does not have as much creative control as she would like
This is obvious if you read the interviews with her, where she quite openly says she would rather do pop2 releases and pop2 shows than the reputacion tour. But to her label she is the boom clap girl so she has to put in the work.
1999 is cute!

1999 is cute but it's reeking of Boys fan appeal. Also seems ripoffish of that Anne-Marie song lyrically.

I'm not feeling 1999 at all... i think its the worst of the "standalone" singles yet. Its sad to see the more a song gets promoted, the more bland, lame, boring and vanilla it is. I mean c'mon, the lyrics? Just the dumbest kind of nostalgia, just some run-of-the-mill references that signify nothing, point to nothing. There is not a even sense of emotion nor would this add to a non-exsisting subtext. Its just what it is: boring, best to be forgotten asap. "Thoose days it was so much better"... There is nothing of interesst on a conceptual, sonic or emotional level.

Ppl on lanaboards keep saying “stream it to support” but it’s not good. Charli has incredible material stored away and she picks the most bland thing in her catalogue to release and promote. People should be streaming songs that are worth it, not this. I can’t get into Troye’s voice at all, it’s just weak on the track. And it’s not like hers is any better on it too.

If her label’s promoting it and it’s a song she actually likes, of course she’s going to release it. And it’s fine! It’s not her best song, but it’s nice to see her excited about it.
