Yes!! I just saw this lol. Also watching family guy. I then tried to google it but I can't find anything online yet. This doesn't totally surprise me as I think Sophie mentioned in one of his interviews that he is really into marketing and advertising. I also have no clue what to think about this.

Literally just saw it on NBC and was kinda freaked out. I think it's an obvious choice for their marketing and great money maker/promotion for SOPHIE. But the small little hipster inside me doesn't want his stuff to become mainstream lol. But I think it's amazing that these big people/companies are seeing the talent SOPHIE/PMC has. I kinda feel like a proud parent lol

I am kinda freaking out about this too lol, in a good way or a bad way idk yet. I do think it's pretty clever of him to have essentially preempted all future accusations of "selling out"... Like an ad with McDonald's is already the absolute nadir of selling out so after whatever backlash there is now, how can anyone accuse him of that later with a straight face... And questioning whether an artist has "sold out" is probably one of the most boring kinds of discourse you could have IMO.

Haha no way. That song is about as catchy as you can get so I'm surprised it hasn't been used already. Did I read somewhere that he's interested in advertising/marketing in general? Also, obligatory Kriss Kross Sprite commercial just because... youtu.be/VtMji36lOQM

if this means somehow getting closer to seeing SOPHIE in colorado then I'm in. otherwise I feel like I can't show anyone 'lemonade' anymore for fear of them being like "oh its that annoying song from that commercial"

There is a very vocal part of me that's like "I HATE IT I HATE IT NOW I CAN'T PLAY THIS BRILLIANT SONG OUT IN SETS ANYMORE BECAUSE IT'S BEEN STERILIZED AND MADE RADICALLY UNCOOL BY THE CORPORATE MACHINE THAT SULLIES EVERYTHING IT TOUCHES FROM COUNTERCULTURAL MOVEMENTS TO BEAUTIFUL IMPORTANT PIECES OF ART"
but then I'm thinking about how so many of my favorite artists would never be able to land a song in a commercial for a company as big as McDonald's even though their music is arguably more "accessible" and tbh I kind of just want to find out who on their Marketing team brought in fucking "Lemonade" to the pitch meeting and was like - "ok. hear me out..."
let's be real, I mean SOPHIE is an incredible artist with tons of integrity, who's also (clearly) a realist about how he's gonna make money and further his career as a musician, so I think we don't need to read too deep into this one. Fans like to have Big Opinions about their fave artists "selling out," but when you're in the artist's shoes I think there's a lot of grey area between doing business and truly "selling out"
There's a Paul McCartney quote I really like that goes something like, "If my dad ever heard that I turned down a paycheck because I didn't want my music to be used in a commercial, he would disown me."

this just seems so natural and so in line with sophie's way of thinking and things he's stated re: advertising and marketing that it's hardly surprising he'd be OK with one of his songs being in a McDonald's commercial. McDonald's gets a bad rap but idk I like the song to begin with and think it's used well with the visual, it's kinda fun, so I'm not worried about it or reading into it any further than that lol
