Any anime fans here? Not so much any more, but I have fond memories of being an anime fan in high school. Even cosplayed at a couple cons... And then in March I put together a QT cosplay so I guess that hobby has come full circle in a way lol... There are still a couple manga I follow but they're so slow to update that I only think about them a couple times a year. Recently I was thinking about buying some manga or graphic novels in French so I don't lose that language entirely (I studied French for 10+ years but now have no occasion to practice). Man, this is making me sad thinking about all the hobbies I used to have compared to now. I did studio art until college and was also just starting to get the hang of digital illustration when I quit. I was never incredibly original or talented, but I did have a certain level of skill that is now lost.

outside of music (which is a big part of my existence, having spent lots of time/money travelling to events around the country/world and doing a radio show every week) I have a job that basically consumes all my energy 4 days of the week but on my days off I like
- obsessing over (American) football. Pro, college, whatever. I got into it later in life but I think once all the jargon and lingo clicked into my head and I understood what was happening, the strategy/drama/sheer spectacle in it is fascinating to me. I also feel like it's by far the most team-oriented sport, pretty hard for any one player to carry a team to victory without others making it possible for them
- architecture/design. I like sleek, pretty things lol. I went to school once for something I haven't ended up using at all but if I go back I want it to be for something in this area
- doing my best to stay active. I'm super on again off again with these things but I really enjoy running and hot yoga
- my oldest obsession is probably arcade gaming. Even though the culture is 99% extinguished in north america I'm lucky enough to be in a part of the country that has enough of an asian population to keep a couple decent facilities alive. Again I'm quite on and off with it but I'm a pretty decent IIDX player, competent at DDR, semi-OK at vertical shooters/fighters, and I looooove basically any Sega racing game

I have clinical depression and do blow to escape my awful reality. I already tried to kill myself three times, but it seems like I'm a failure at that too. I love cooking and my dream is to be a performance artist, though I'm currently coursing Social Communication focused on Publicity and Propaganda at uni, and I'm a pretty nice graphic designer. I don't have any friends and I lost my will to watch any of the series I used to watch, and movies. I basically spend all day playing Dragon Mania Legends on my phone, listening to music, but last week I downloaded Life is Strange, because an Internet buddy recommended it, and I'm pretty hooked. I'm on chapter four and I plan to play it again after I finish this first run, making different decisions, to see what happens.

omg this is such a good thread - I have so many questions for so many of you. I recently bought an AKAI MPD26 MIDI Pad Controller and an AKAI Professional MPK Mini MKII and I absolutely no clue why because I have no background in music whatsoever and never even listened to electronic-type music until PC Music so that's where I am in life. (Also downloaded FL Studios - I've only used Garageband and I've only used that, like, twice. I'm serious when I tell you I have no clue what I'm doing.) I'm in uni (undergrad) studying to become an English educator, but really just want to learn about everything forever (would love to get an apparel design degree someday). I recently found an artist I'm extremely into at the moment: Naomi Elizabeth. And my favorite book is The Mysterious Stranger by Mark Twins; my favorite movie is Another Earth; favorite song is Impossible Soul by Sufjan Stevens. I hate saying that I have favorites, but I can't stop; it's one of my favorite things. Other than that, I'm really in love with volunteering. Primarily in the realms of education, people with disabilities, etc.

As far as hobby interests, I draw and paint and stuff and I'm a musician.
And I'm an unathletic squid. Do you have a website where you show/sell your drawings and paintings / showcase your music?

Yeah there's already a thread for other music, I'm pretty sure this thread was supposed to be about other interests/hobbies. Personally I read a lot of books and I like dabbling in just about any kind of DIY project... Upholstery, making clothing, refinishing furniture, party decorations, photography, etc. Recently I've been roller skating a lot lol. And of course I love DANCING. But for most of the year, grad school takes all my time/energy and Netflix is the only recreational activity I have the energy for. In the summer I read as many books as possible (like one a week almost) because during school I'm too burned out to read for fun on top of all the coursework. omg I grew up roller skating (basically lived at the skating rink) and have always been in love with. Unfortunately Austin has the shittiest skating rinks and my hometown's one closed down (RIP).

Competitive knitting. And architecture and designy stuff (that's kind of my job). Basically, I like nice things. Ohhh, can you tell me more about competitive knitting? Is there competitions that you go to? What kinds of things do you make? Do you have a website where you show / sell the things you made?

Do you have any influences or inspirations for these interests? I'm also really into architecture/design, but I haven't really made anything whatsoever, but would really love to go to school to get a degree in this area as well!

Do you have any role models in the field? I LOVE performance art and would love to do some pieces in my life time. I have yet to though.

Oh sorry, the first bit was a joke (probably not a very good one in hindsight). I do legit like designy stuff though. I have an extensive collection of knitted socks courtesy of my grandma but it would be unbecoming of me to claim credit for them.

I have them on my mind, though, and as soon as I have the money and support that I need to present them, I will (if I'm still alive by then). I don't want to seem cliché or "that-guy-who-just-follow-trends", but my role models are Marina Abramovic and Yoko Ono.

I thought the competition part was the joke and that you actually knitted. But then I thought, "maybe there are competitions." That would be cool. I'll look into that.

I think Marina Abramovic is incredible and definitely deserves to be on most performance artists' / aspiring performance artists' list of role models. She's my favorite and a lot of the people who go through her institute are great too.
