As far as hobby interests, I draw and paint and stuff and I'm a musician.
And I'm an unathletic squid. Do you have a website where you show/sell your drawings and paintings / showcase your music? Not really no, haha. I might post my art here one day, i'm doing a digital painting of QT and a SOPHIE promo pic.

Wasn't sure what thread this should go in but when I first started getting into PC Music I was reminded of this poem, "The Melancholy of Mechagirl" by Catherynne Valente. I just came across it again today so I thought I might as well share. I really enjoy this author's fiction, too. mythicdelirium.com/from-the-mythic-delirium-books-archives

as for me i skate a lot, used to do ballett but i just moved to a different city and still have to find a troupe. i also like to dabble in all kinds of artistry but i never actually make anything (which makes me concerned that i'm faking it haha). im really really into guitar effects pedals and im studying electrical sound engineering right now so i can maybe develop my own stuff one day. i also really enjoy stand up comedy and im thinking of trying to incorporate it a little into my live shows which im working on at the moment

Aside from music I get pretty deep into politics. Broadly speaking I'm left of liberal, I'm interested in climate change and I especially like Naomi Klein's take on things, the general gist being that we need much more radical left-wing policies to address climate change. Aside from Naomi Klein I'm really into bell hooks, Paul Mason and Yanis Varoufakis, and I've got a lot of love for Caroline Lucas from the Green Party in the UK, Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn (though I'm happy to engage with his critics!). I've recently been dabbling in some Marxist perspectives too but I haven't read loads of that stuff. I hope this isn't too heavy for this forum I know politics can get tiring and can quickly descend into mud-slinging, especially online! I'm not interested in judging anyone and I find it really awful when people belittle each other in political discussions, regardless of what their views are. Just thought I'd post this here as I find that what I'm thinking about in politics often gets mixed in with what I'm interested in music/art-wise and the kind of stuff I want to make

Bit of a heavy subject lol, but do you think it's too late to act on climate change?? I read this article yesterday which has thoroughly depressed me: www.flassbeck-economics.com/how-climate-change-is-rapidly-taking-the-planet-apart/

I read this article yesterday which has thoroughly depressed me: www.flassbeck-economics.com/how-climate-change-is-rapidly-taking-the-planet-apart/V good (and v depressing) article, in short it isn't too late to act on climate change and the more progress we can make the more we can limit warming. In Naomi Klein's book she talks about how scientists say if we go past 4 degrees C of warming, they really can't predict what would happen, because there would be so many factors shifting which would set off complex chain reactions. At the COP21, leaders agreed to limit warming to 2C, and to aim for 1.5C (which is the figure that activists are pushing for), however when you add up the targets of the individual countries, they would collectively lead to 3.5C of warming. So the way I see it, there's still all to play for with regard to keeping warming to a minimum. I do find it very difficult sometimes to think about these things without feeling overwhelmed though

I'm pretty similar but I don't know what label I am right now. I used to consider myself pretty solidly left-socialist but I also have a pretty strong small-l liberal streak. And everytime I look into Marxism i end up running into the "but free speech is bougie, we have to control the message to save the people" type of arguments. Don't get me wrong there's definitely issues with our current "free" press but idk. I suppose the real problem is that every political position I feel like I associate with (mutualism, socialist libertarianism, etc) is a point of instant mockery among all sides Bernie's campaign has given me hope though. I think that democratic socialism can catch on in the coming decades as the cold war effect wears off (thats a nice way of saying all the Boomers die!!!). I also feel more and more like the USA just can't work being run as a giant super country (idk how to fix it without breaking it up) and a whole bunch of boring but extremely important shit needs to be changed, like the electoral college and voting reform. Really America has a whole shitload of issues based around the fact that we weren't designed to be a gigantic country of hundreds of millions of people, but no one wants to actually fix things. I do hope Corbyn prevails in England. I do find that struggle fascinating because Labour is actually socialist, unlike the Democrats, and because the partisanship from the media is so intense and petty. Even newspapers that I usually trust like the Guardian are publishing unabashed nu-lab propaganda at times. Maybe it's just more obvious from afar. On a total unrelated note, I've been playing Overwatch lately, if anyone else plays feel free to add me to your friends list, my name is Ignatz#11499. I usually play D.Va and Mercy, not that great but I'm learning and playing in groups gets you extra exp so hmu if you want to kill/explode/heal shit

I usually play D.Va and Mercy, not that great but I'm learning and playing in groups gets you extra exp so hmu if you want to kill/explode/heal shit I think we desperately need Proportional Representation voting reform in the US and UK for more left wing platforms have a chance. Rather depressingly, in the UK, the Conservatives have changed borders for voting areas so they're in a stronger position. you say that labour is 'actually socialist' and thats true for some of it but unfortunately a lot of it is careerist new-labour types that could easily be tories with a blue lick of paint :/. Along with all the fear-mongering around Corbyn (Proboards want me to correct his name to 'Corncob' lol) and the fact that many UK voters see Conservative as the default I don't think an actually center-left Labour party can survive without Proportional Representation. I find all the political labels you allude to 'mutualism, socialist libertarianism, etc' really confusing. I try to stick to 'principles' rather than apply a political label to myself- though I completely understand that others can ascribe political labels to my personal philosophy. Added you on Battle.net. I llke playing mercy, winston and Mei (occasionaly) because my aiming is truely dire. my battleTag is GummyPurist#2528

Totally agree about Proportional Representation, we need it bad. In the UK it would be a boon for the left but also the far-right - UKIP only have one seat but would have got many more under PR. Which obviously would suck but it does mean the issue has support across the political spectrum. Caroline Lucas (Green Party MP) put a motion into the house of commons calling for PR and voting for 16-year-olds, and it was voted down by only a narrow margin of 81 to 74, which is much closer than it was last time the issue was brought up, so things seem to be heading in the right direction. Actually this is one area where I find Corncob (going to start calling him that now lol) distinctly lacking - he hasn't brought it up as far as I know. John McDonnell (Shadow Chancellor) is apparently trying to get him to take up the issue, which aside from being right I think could be v smart. A huge part of the Pro-Brexit message was about 'taking back' our democracy, so this would be a chance to make the Tories look hypocritical (because they will almost certainly oppose electoral reform).
ignatz you're right on the money about UK media, it's been just as shocking for me to see the Guardian (and the New Statesman) turn on Corbyn in such a blatant way (I moved to Berlin in June but I'm from the UK and still read UK news). They are really hitting this one trope especially hard, which is to basically accuse Corbyn's supporters of being over-priveleged idealists, endangering the real material conditions of the working class by failing to embrace realpolitik. I see a lot of that discourse emerging right now around the US Pres. debate since so many progressives are seriously questioning whether to vote for Hillary. Of course there are times when that argument is valid but, at least in the UK case, I see it being used to really shut down debate. There are plenty of legitimate concerns about Corbyn to be discussed, but they seem to be more interested in declaring him 'unelectable' without much evidence and just leaving it at that.
[EDIT: Mcdonnell is Shadow Chancellor not Deputy Leader - that position is held by Tom Watson atm]
