It was my birthday last Friday, and I got a (worn out, likely thrift store purchased on the day of me receiving) copy of the Pokemon: The First Movie Soundtrack. Everybody knows the influence late-90s/early-00s pop has on PC Music, but I was surprised how much of these songs sounded like direct antecedents of what we have come to know and love about PC. I didn't like some songs as much as the others, but maybe they'll grow on me. Here are some highlights:
1. Pokémon Theme - Billy Crawford
This cover is crazy. Kinda sounds how I'd imagine a Danny L. Harle remix of the Pokemon theme would sound like (signature 90s rave sounds, fluttering arpeggios, etc.)
2. Don't Say You Love Me - M2M
Never heard of M2M before this, but I guess they're sorta like the teen pop version of alt-singer/songwriters like Alanis Morrisette and Sheryl Crow. Mixes a typical pop sound with some really neat guitar production. Overall the song is really catchy and has some pretty hilarious angsty yet level headed lyrics ("It's not like we're gonna get married")
3.It Was You - So Plush, Ashley Ballard
In the same vein of Velvet Rope-era Janet Jackson, but appropriately more bubblegum-ified. Instead of being about the self-doubt and dependency that comes with love, it talks about the more palatable aspects. Also shares the same refrain as a How To Dress Well song, who has previously talked about how much of an influence The Velvet Rope was.
6. Somewhere Someday - 'N Sync
I haven't listened to much 'N Sync, but out of the songs of theirs I have heard, this one is most indicative of Justin Timberlake's solo career. If you like that, you'll like this. It's nice.
10. Lullaby - Willa Ford
An (I assume) original track, despite having nothing to do with Pokemon outside of Jigglypuff singing a lullaby for the intro and outro. Has a pretty PC-esque bubbly sound for its percussion, and sounds a bit like Christina Aguilera. Funnily enough, Christina Aguilera is also on the soundtrack, but I wasn't so crazy about her song.
11. Vacation - Vitamin C
I remember I was really into Vitamin C when I was around 4 or 5, despite not remembering any of her songs now. Combines some drum n bass and trip-hop sounds into a really catchy and infectous pop song.
13. Catch Me If You Can - Angela Via
This song is nuts! Starts out with an N64 sounding intro, has a subby bassline that seems to be falling over itself, and some Aqua-esque backing vocals. I was blown away the first time I heard this. Maxo recently remixed it, because of course he did.
14.(Have Some) Fun With the Funk -Aaron Carter
Jesus, this song is so ridiculous. The verse is so cheesy and melodramatic, despite being about throwing a party, and then it turns into this huge bombastic sugary chorus. It even has a beatboxing breakdown! Why hasn't there been a beatboxing breakdown in any of Hannah Diamond's songs?
Anyways, here's a playlist of the soundtrack for your listening pleasure.

Let me know if any of the tracks I didn't mention stood out for you, I might need to give them a second thought!
