I know I should probably be dropping the subject but this whole situation is really interesting in terms of how readily people sexualise stars and the state of our forum. The only reason the original comment felt out of line on here is because, I'm pretty sure, we have never really done that on this forum before. I mean sure, some of us comment on how cute the members are and stuff but our scene is far smaller than most pop star scenes so there's no way to get away with outright sexual objectification without warranted backlash. Also as annoying as these threads that get derailed can be, I'm always so happy to see our little conflicts resolved on here between each other. A lot of these conversations are important to be having and I love that pc music is triggering all this stuff.
also I feel like I should get into vinyl and totally buy this (I'm reeeeally diggin the 80's vibes), like it would be so awesome to just have a tangible copy of a song or album. Does anyone know any good vinyl players I should look into??

Does anyone know any good vinyl players I should look into?? The only ones you should ever look into are the Technics turntables. Though, they stopped manufacturing them in 2010 and now the last few new ones cost A LOT. The good thing with these are that they pretty much never break down. You can buy ones that have seen heavy use for over 20 years and still work perfectly. That's the beauty of these things and why people value them so highly. So, if I were you, I'd find myself a used Technics turntable. I'd go for the SL-1200 or 1210 (silver and black), no need for that fancy stuff the more expensive models have. I myself own a pair of 1200's. And don't even think about buying any other brand. You'll be sorry. You can ask any dj about this and they will tell you the same: "Get a 1200 (or 1210)".

Sorry but the above advice is absolutely misleading... Technics SL-1200s are the industry standard for deejaying (for very good reason), but to suggest to a newcomer that those tables are the only option for listening is almost unfair.
If you're not absolutely sure you'd want to mix vinyl with two turntables and a mixer, then go for a belt-driven turntable. Worry about finding nice Technics after you fall in love (or maybe the new models will be out by then!) Belt-driven turntables are the best option for people that want to start a small collection and see if vinyl is right for them.
Hands-down, the best & most cost-effective entry-level turntable is the Orbit U-Turn. I'm not in the market for one (guess who else has two 1200s), but a close friend picked one up & I'm very impressed.
back to Sfire-- I'm surprised this project slipped past me, thanks for the tip! this production style in a Detroit/Chicago context really shines. props to both Jeffrey and Sam. looking forward to receiving the repress of 2/3/3e & spinning that a bunch while I wait for 6/7. (I'm not even mad about this SOPHIE drought anymore.) Does anyone have copies of the tracks beyond the store previews?

Finally made an account just to reply to this, haha. Spinning vinyl that is.

Technics are wonderful, but I do think there are better options for listening instead of DJing.

I have a few turntables and I can attest that the U-Turn (~$200) is great value for money (probably the best entry level out there). However, if you want to take a slight step up my favorite by far is the Pro-ject Debut Carbon (~$400). It punches waaay above its own weight. The best listening experience I've found below $1200 hands down.

I love the darker sounds he works with here and on a few of his current-era tracks too maybe even more! Funny that you got a "dark" feeling from these, the 80s synths are very bright for me. Definitely get a dark vibe from the unreleased tracks we've been hearing though. Sfire6 is maybe a little too 80s for my liking but I like 7 a lot. I kept expecting vocals to kick in for some reason though. Maybe dark isn't the word for it but they have more of a sparse/electronic tone whereas the stuff he's done recently (which is admittedly mostly collaborations - WIRTW, Hey QT etc) is more bubbly and upbeat pop. His official releases so far though have sort of played with both those styles, which is what makes them so intriguing. I guess it is a matter of association though, for me '70s/'80s synths have always had a sort of dark sound, but in a good way!

I was about to mention how some of the SFIRE tracks sounded like they could be Cold Cave songs but I decided against it because I thought no one knew them

I was about to mention how some of the SFIRE tracks sounded like they could be Cold Cave songs but I decided against it because I thought no one knew them i listened to "The Trees Grew Emotions and Died" once and automatically went to SoulseekQT (yeah!) to download their discography <3
