So here's a little background storytime! In order to easily share the new SOPHIE track 'Just Like We Never Said Goodbye' with some friends on Facebook I did one of those silly/easy MP3 to YouTube video conversion sites. I did this knowing full well that I would get a copyright claim from Numbers eventually but I just wanted to share it with people that weren't so technologically adept (downloading and playing an mp3 is a challenge to some of my friends). So 24hrs later I got the copyright notice, but I was surprised by the claimant; it wasn't from Numbers! Is Numbers owned by Warp now? I'm not an expert on how licensing works these days but I know what Merlin is thanks to some light Googling. But I just found this interesting because I thought that Numbers and Warp Records were separate entities. I also remember some people saying that SOPHIE was unhappy with how Numbers was handling their releases and some forum members saying Warp might be a better home for SOPHIE. But it seems there is already some connection there. Anyway, could someone shed some more light on this? Was this information already well known? Am I late to the info party? I brought snacks and drinks...

Warp owns Bleep, so maybe that's the reason.

I think Warp are the distributors - they also distribute music from other labels (e.g. Night Slugs/Fade to Mind and LuckyMe) so it's not too much of a stretch to assume they do Numbers too.
Traditionally the distributor would be in charge of getting the music into shops and were responsible for getting the money from those sales back to the artist and label. Nowadays the role has changed a bit with streaming and everything, so there are other digital rights agencies (e.g. Merlin) who represent the distributors online.
It's a confusing world.
Warp do own Bleep, so if Warp are the distributors in this case, it makes sense that they'd want people to buy Sophie's stuff off their own store.
