Yes, another thread by me lmfao. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with this project I'm working on. The project is supposed to be an Electronic/R&B experience and my vocals are to be on top. For some reason, I have these ideas but fall short when it comes to actually putting them in action. The project is supposed to be like a free album or like a mixtape and I wanted the songs to be very transitional. Idk but I realized that I've been kinda just making beats without actually thinking. I've made a couple but I'm just gonna share the ones I have "finished" (unmastered, all over the place mess) right now. I have a soulful voice so I wanted to do R&B and I really love electronic music. I think I'm gonna end up doing more pop/R&b/House type music though. My voice is flexible anyways lol. i would love some critiques (are the best tbh)or if you guys could give me any ideas or anything. Here's a playlist (the soundcloud thing isn't working for me, am I the only one?): soundcloud.com/avden/sets/top-secret-super-duper-uber/s-62PfJone of the songs is public because it's kinda pcmusic-ish.

TRACK 1. the synth pad opening of track one feels a bit cliche, especially with the effects you chose. 3:30 ish also has a really cheap sounding moment in contrast to a rather professional sounding section leading up to it. Dem chords girl- make your tones sound expensive not cheap. Use some more inventive effects, maybe even a sample or two to spice things up.
TRACK 2. Loving this toned bass drum effect. I'm not LOVING the percussion you put on top of it, cuz it feels very ambiguous and bland. Something a bit more msmsmsm toned would work great here. Are you familiar with EPROM? look him up, his production's on fire.
TRACK 3. We need to talk about a concept called sound design. Your lead sound plays well with others, but can barely support itself here, so maybe add in something more earlier on? ALSO, it's at the perfect tempo and mood for a fierce catwalk beat, but you deny it of one? Why? Feeling the piano at the end, I want more of it.
ZAPPITY ZAP: Cucumber dildo? this song needs a kickdrum earlier on and some remastering, it feels like your treble is a bit too prominent and the bass a little underwhelming. That sparkle effect lead is almost headache inducing for me at current levels, sorry.

SO i had intially wrote stuff to this but then the page magically refreshed and erased everything -__________- Track 1 - So the pad at the beginnign isnt even a pad lol. It's a guitar sound i found on FL Slayer and then I added a Vocoder on top and I found a nice piano synth to put under it. I was thinking of changing it. Knowing as i'm still trying to figure all the producing stuff out, It's really hard to create my own sounds and stuff. VST's are expensive af. Doesn't help that i have an old FL Studio as well. The sounds and effects on the transition are so good. I was trying to test changing BPM's and seeing how i can combine two songs as one. The lead on the second half does need improvement, I see what you mean. I don't know how to "sample". Like I have but idk how to do it the way i've seen producers do it. Track 2 - Love EPROm. I think this reminds me kinda of Regis Chillbin. I definitely see what you mean by the percussion. Maybe I should add a more up-beat to it. Maybe just a snare. I think maybe a sample. And probably some of that organ & pad stuff that Machinedrum be using. I think this beat might get scrapped though. Track 3 - This is my fave track because I see the potential of it. I have yet to even watch a tutorial on sound design. I know how to get it for like dance type stuff and pop but nothing outside of that. I see so much potential in this. I just don't know how to use Sylenth and Massive like that in order to get the sounds in my head. The lead melody comes from a Sean Paul song I can never find. The lead can honestly be changed. I had a beat earlier but scrapped it for two reasons; One, i didnt like it and two because i feel like it leaves the song open for interpretation and remixes. I need help making a beat for this though cause i really cant think of one. I'm glad you like the piano at the end,I left it short because I felt like anyone listening would want more of it and I didn't to just give it all away. Also, do you think this would benefit from a sample or at least a more heavy sound (if that makes sense). Zappity Zap - Dildos . I see what you mean by the kick drum. I tossed this song together in 30 mins and didn't even use headphones. It was all just off of feeling inspired. I can definitely up the bass, maybe add more of it. add more effects? the glitter thing does get annoying after a whie. I might take that out or switch it out. Thanks for taking the time to critique. I am still doing bad at this producing stuff even though i've been doing it since i was 15 or something. lol i'm trying.

-- Track one: Agreed, the pad/guitar is a little cheesy. A little too much sharpness and attack. Cut 2dB off the 5kHz area maybe?? It's a little bright. 2:30 and beyond is dope af. And you already mentioned the mastering thing but I guess I'll still say that there's some major clipping at the end but you already know.
Track two: Nice bass, however you usually don't have more than two percussion instruments at a time. So try adding multiple instruments into one pattern (you said you're using FL?)Also, this isn't a critique, just a suggestion but maybe record your own "ayy!" vocal like 10 times and layer them over eachother, staggering them by a tiny, tiny bit, and panning them? Idk, it might sound terrible but if you're going for the chant idea it might work.
Track three: The bass that comes in at :40 is a little harsh and unexpected. Maybe create and automate a lowpass filter on the bass so that it kind of leads in. Also that percussion instrument at 3:00 is very awesome and very SOPHIE. I love the chords at 3:17, however that same tuned percussion that I loved before doesn't quite "fit" with these now powerful, emotional chords. Try something softer and more tonal. Piano all the way to the end is great.
Zappity Zap: that bass is dope, very SOPHIE as well. This song you pretty much nailed the percussion. I'd say this one is my favorite, however there is a lot of high-end frequency clutter so that could be cleared up. Again, I understand that these aren't finished.
Overall really good job and I hope it turns out well!
