Is anyone familiar with That Poppy? Was recently talking with someone about her and we both agreed that she seems very... QT-esque. She's a musician that creates overtly sugary pop music and "vlogs" (if that's even what you can call them, they're lowkey creepy). It's been referred to as an "art installation" by Night Minds, or an experiment, which sounds very familiar.

Yeah she popped up on my YouTube suggestions (rarely a good sign lol) and since then I've seen her around on tumblr etc. Tbh I'm not feeling it, it really feels like too much of a rip-off of PC Music, but with alot more creepiness and much less charm. But maybe I'm being too narrow-minded? Idk

Glad someone else knows of her on here. I think I started listening to her around the same time I discovered PC Music. I really like her music and the creepy videos she does on her channel, the creepier the better for me.
I do agree with you about her being QT-esque, because she embodies this character if that could be the right word to describe this. I've read comments on her vids of people saying they think she's promoting individualism, I guess when you think about it that's what QT is doing also (I don't know, probably talking nonsense at this point)
Also you wouldn't think that Poppy (Moriah Pereira) was actually in her early twenties from looking at her. She had also released music under her real name. I haven't had any luck any finding any of those songs since they have been deleted now.
Sorry for the novel long reply, but this is kinda fascinating to me for some strange reason, but I'm just going with it tbh.

That youtube channel is really a rabbit hole, damn. Really fascinating resonances with QT but after some digging I found the name Titanic Sinclair, who directs the Poppy vlog series and co-writes music with her. He used to be part of a thing called Mars Argo with another girl, and the videos from that project as well as his personal channel are very very similar to Poppy, he has a very distinct aesthetic. But I like the Poppy stuff more than his other work, at least from first perusal. Very odd blend of detached monotony, catatonic affirmations of self-confidence and "everything is perfect" but tainted with this really dark self-awareness. Don't think Poppy is a QT ripoff though, since Sinclair's been making these kinds of videos for a few years now. Just a very interesting parallel. Wish QT did vlogs like this... Her videos with Titanic Sinclair are interesting..I hate Titanic sinclair though, he's very arrogant. I like her EP, highlights for me were lowlife and money

Oh my god I love her. Those creepy videos on her channel are hilarious.
She reminds of those "sad girl" facebook/tumblr pages that mix cute pink pastel stuff with depressing macabre/gory stuff.

I know what you mean, I feel like she is mirroring the way society fetishizes youth (esp. in girls) and pastiching the way it's often presented as erotic when young women behave in an infantile way. Her videos are obviously not straight-forwardly a pleasurable experience though, by being so creepy they are subverting that idea |
