SOPHIE interview with Elektron who manufacture the Monomachine synth which features heavily in his productions - if you've seen him live you'll recognise it as the little box on stage. He offers some very interesting perspectives on his approach to sound design/composition, and I guess it's refreshing to hear stuff from this angle rather than a traditional music journalism format: www.elektronauts.com/talk/view/62Also, I hadn't seen the Sup Mag interview he did a while back posted. The article got removed from the Sup site for some reason, but can still be accessed via Wayback Machine. Again, really intelligent and insightful perspectives. I was really impressed reading this shortly after hearing SOPHIE for the first time as to how well his vision of what his music should be had translated to my experience: web.archive.org/web/20130123072442/http://supmag.com/2013/01/sophie/and lastly, a translated interview with Radio Wave, most interesting for SOPHIE's perspective on his music being branded as cute: www.rozhlas.cz/radiowave/turban/_zprava/1400313Just though I'd share these links as they're not very visible and I was very happy when I stumbled onto them.

Knew about this before, but didn't watch it until now. That track he plays before "Bipp" (well, the slightly different early version of "Bipp") could easily be an intro for an album or live set - it's like the "SOPHIE overture".

Excerpt from Hannah Diamonds 'Diamond Wright' about me section:
" Image Makers for QT, Hannah Diamond, Princess Bambi, PC Music & SOPHIE (coming soon). Creative @ LOGO Magazine. "
Really looking forward to some new Sophie.

... lol I thought he was gay. I was going to say maybe that solved the mystery of YLOPPUMP, but take YOPP out and you get LUMP. I'm even more confused.

Sophie and QT are a thing FYI (or were during SXSW). When is this newmuseum.org interview from?

I had read all those interviews before but it was nice to read them again. Lol I distinctly remember the first time reading the Elektron interview my main takeaway was that SOPHIE goes around wearing a USB stick attached to his clothes somewhere and how that did not fit with my image of him. That and the fact that he uses a hair dryer. I guess I've learned something about music in the past year or so because the rest of the interview was much more comprehensible this time around!

Sophie and QT are a thing FYI (or were during SXSW). When is this newmuseum.org interview from? The Supmag interview where it says that is old, it's from Jan 2013, so it was right before 'Nothing More To Say/EEEHHH' came out as it says in the preceding paragraph before the interview (and also not on their site anymore, it has to be viewed with the wayback machine). What's interesting is Tess was apparently at Field Day (per her instagram) to see SOPHIE. So either things ended amicably or SOPHIE and QT together is just a weird public persona thing. Anyway, still together or not I just thought it was interesting the she's the model and stylist for those initial SOPHIE press photos. EDIT: I also have to add that Tess added one of those press photos to her instagram page as a #TBT saying "That time I licked foam for SOPHIE".

Not meant to be a comment on any of the people involved, but I just want to point out that nonmonogamous people do exist! *waves hand*
Also it has to be said... I feel like speculation about his romantic relationships is exactly the kind of thing SOPHIE does not want, as per the interview posted *in this same thread* lol.

Right I almost pointed out the same thing. He's a musician that travels a lot after all. I'm sure a traditional relationship would be hard. Also, same thing to the person that said "I thought SOPHIE was gay" who says he isn't bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, herbisexual, etc.? And I pointed it out not to try to be invasive or that I really care, but I was more interested in the fact that SOPHIE seems to pull creativity from around those closest to him, which is an aspect I greatly admire. It seems to be kind of an "art school" kind of mentality (I don't know how else to put it). When I was in college getting my BFA in Photography the people I ended up collaborating with tended to be my friends/classmates or my boyfriend at the time. This was mainly due to necessity and because when you're a student you're pretty much most likely going to be poor...

That and the fact that he uses a hair dryer. I guess I've learned something about music in the past year or so because the rest of the interview was much more comprehensible this time around! I forgot to respond to this too, so I apologize for the double post (I'm on my phone!) but I also love that image and idea about having every version of every song you've ever made with you all the time always (in theory as SOPHIE mentions). I think it also speaks volumes about what he says about his sound design in the Supmag interview about how one person imagines sound in their head. They don't imagine the artifice of recording in their head, people tend to imagine the sounds 'purely'. You don't picture the distortion or electrical hums of poorly grounded recording equipment so I can see why soft synths and the Elektron Monomachine would really appeal to SOPHIE. The latter does have emulations of older synths like the emulation of the MOS6581 SID chip it has, but mostly it's simple waveforms that can be easily "sculpted" with the knobs and sequencer. Anyway, it's all cool stuff. The more I learn about SOPHIE's ideas about music and sound design the more I like him and am impressed by the amount of thought and care that goes into his work. I'm really curious as to where he went to school, or if he went to school at all because a lot of this theory seems to be born out of some serious post-modern thinking. For example his ideas about simulated sounds made from synthesis seems hugely influenced by Baudrillard's 'Simulacra and Simulation'. But yet he's able to distill these complex ideas into manic, under 3 minute pop songs. Amazing! Again, super cool stuff. There's definitely a reason I love SOPHIE.
