Hi all. Found this thread to be the best place to post some recent thoughts about music. Hope it's not too off topic and maybe help flesh out some kinda odd feelings. Or it may just be me, I dunno. As far the OP I find plenty of music to go through and would be pretty sad if all I had were PC Music's output to look forward to/enjoy. Though it would be a treat to have more and more constantly the tease is very important to the obsession. femdog I have an honest question to ask you... Do you think everyone who listens to house music also thinks it's like, silly? Even while listening to my favorite songs, if there's any housiness to it, I'm like, "god damn, this is some silly music" me hmm... I can kinda get that. I have some really contradictory emotional responses sometimes and with house I am more often than not kinda sad as it's in this place mentally that I don't know if I'll be in again. Like PC music with that young falling in love feeling... just makes me super sad at how impossible it is to feel that again when I think about it too much. Not exactly because I am not lovable but something about the youthful impression that's already fled. With house it's more of a carefree happiness that I have not experienced since hearing it inhibition free on a sugar high in skateworld at 10 years old. Playing street fighter II, eating tongue splashers... my neighbor djing Sesame's Treet and C&C music factory and shit. I can imagine it and it just causes deep sadness. Probably imprinted from the reality I was already desperate to escape. Sorry this became very dark... so I can relate to it implying silliness but I guess it has some deeper shit for me. Eddie Vedder is silly as fuck, though. Totally redefined throat singing. Me www.youtube.com/watch?v=odQgfUUegQIMe okay, first one to actually hit the silly vibe a bit but still having some dark bs... but yes, silly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvUjmbxEsqsI don't remember this one so it's also quite silly and lighthearted. Yay!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3j2pGMnKj4Me lol this has so much fun imagery www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_wdAD2dlDwand everytime she doesn't make rain and again rhyme I have a lil hope we are not all doomed. Me and here these folks are way too awesome. the aesthetics are just so fucking cool. I imagine most would find this incredibly silly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WPxou3BXbQ

I imagine most would find this incredibly silly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WPxou3BXbQI find a lot of PC music stuff very corny. Like they are trying so hard for an aesthetic that at the time had little to no effort involved with it. I find majority of house music corny but it's just cause they say stuff like "Dance the night away" or have these corny love lyrics. But at the same time these are real valid feelings. For example, I've been with a person forget months now and all I can listen to are corny happy house love songs. Especially PC Mus tracks. PC music the soundtrack of love and happiness. But also there's a sadness of "I finally know what love feels like, but I'm still alone and want more,". Idk just how I see it. I really hate that it's so dead though cause TBH I don't wanna be the bearer of bad news but PC Mus can only be a thing for so long. And they haven't created enough buzz yet. It's frustrating. And what's crazy is I already know that producers are kinda using this sound for new upcoming pop releases. So like PC Mus must know if I know. They needa be more quick. Thanks for the house tracks though.

Wow!! Loving the post about love evoking such an emotional response. Funny tidbit about me, I listen to happy catchy music I would say about 90% of the time. I can't stand sad music because it drags me down and makes me sad. So PC Music is kind of a great fit for me. I think that's why I'm drawn to it so much. Like, the day I got engaged I couldn't stop listening to QT and Vroom Vroom and the whole catalogue.

Like I can listen to Lana Del Rey singing about longing for love and death and depression and heartbreak and I'll be like super happy. Congrats on being engaged though! I'd be listening to PC Music playlist till I got married if I was engaged.

And what's crazy is I already know that producers are kinda using this sound for new upcoming pop releases. So like PC Mus must know if I know. It's interesting to think that as more artists become influenced by/start """appropriating""" the PC sound, there is a far greater chance for dilution/corruption of the 'genre' itself than there would be for say, contemporary folk which has been subsumed by the broader pop machine but even a modern radio single which is a shitty folk song with a shitty dubstep beat overlaid upon it can still be recognizably categorized as exactly that, purely from the strengths of its generally understood and matured musical heritage; compare this to PC Music where so much of the power of these songs lies at a compositional level, and i feel that the compositional practices of Cook, SOPHIE, Life Sim et al. are much more idiosyncratic than they are with other, big-name producers and this comes further down to a matter of very specific personal influences -- 80s/90s dance, classical, happy hardcore, J/K-pop, old-school acid house -- and that until a younger-generation new wave comes onto the scene, most of the current crop of pop producers will have an imperfect time directly replicating the catchiness of an early PC track without having an adequate handle on the confluence of related-but-disparate, semi-underground tastes that led to the engineering of the sound in the first place. Like yeah, there's the really easy hardcore sugary surface-level aesthetic to it, but I feel like there's still the opportunity for the PC collective as we know it to remain a major player in pop for the next couple years just because it fills an audioideological niche in a much deeper way IMO.

a pretentious fuck said "most of the current crop of pop producers will have an imperfect time directly replicating the catchiness of an early PC track without having an adequate handle on the confluence of related-but-disparate, semi-underground tastes that led to the engineering of the sound in the first place." Yes, agreed (well said). Those copyists that do come along won't however need that idiosyncratic PC authentic lineage. Like most trends a poor approximation will be sufficient to capture a wider audience.

I guess I hear PC music actually as 'experimental'. But there is undoubted a pop aspect. So you have slightly unusual situation where, tho experimental there is potential for a broad range of listeners to come to it, ie attributes of melody, heavy sugar etc. But I don't see how the orig style can breakthru in an overground way.

"The time has come to start unleashing large scale content of all shapes and sizes" "We will continue to enforce a fast-paced production line of Laplanders and Lifestyles, ..." "2014 didn't exist"

We got 4 new tracks, Pop Cosmos, and an hour long Spinee mix last month... It's true that this month we haven't gotten much (just a stellar Spinee show that people keep forgetting to listen to, PLEASE LISTEN TO SPINEE'S MIXES THEYRE GREAT), and this year is nothing like 2014, but I think we're getting a bit spoiled.
Edit: also I don't remember if it was this month or last, but Supernatural leaked so... it's not like we haven't been getting anything.
