Just wanted to make a general 2k16 discussion thread after falling head over heels for this new Mssingno EP. Delightful helium vocal melodies.

I just downloaded that. Haven't listened to it yet but his 2013 EP is legendary so I have high hopes. My favorites of the year so far would have to be (in random order): - Future - Purple Reign
- Young Thug - I'm Up
- Ty Segall - Emotional Mugger
- Jesu / Sun Kil Moon - Jesu / Sun Kil Moon
- Pinkshinyultrablast - Grandfeathered
- Wild Nothing - Life of Pause
- Tim Hecker - Love Streams
- Roly Porter - Third Law
- Rihanna - ANTI
- Lucinda Williams - The Ghosts of Highway 20
- Babyfather - Platinum Tears
And the new David Bowie record, but that kind of goes without saying at this point. Can't wait for the new Animal Collective! The two songs that have been released sound great and I read from someone who heard it already that those are some of the weaker tracks on the record so I'm expecting big things.

Breakbot's Still Waters is a great listen. Can see 2016 being a big year for Ed Banger with new Cassius and Justice records supposedly out this year.

the new Young Thug is totally inspiring. new beyonce + death grips + future all in the same week also has me pretty stoked on 2016, tho the album Future just dropped (EVOL) hasn't gripped me as immediately as the Purple Reign tape he put out a few weeks ago.
new animal collective and drake records are gonna be sweet. pumped to hear the new Kanye as well (whatever he ends up calling it lol).
also my favorite band ever, Pinegrove, is putting out a record next week that has me super stoked.

This new Beyoncé song and vid really gives me life. If you pay close attention to the words, it's very powerful for black people around the world. It's also powerful for black women specifically. It's so powerful and has so much meaning. It's really amazing. Also currently waiting for Azealia to snatch my edges with The Big Big Beat. Tinashe's album coming out in March I'm excited for. I'm excited for Dawn Richard's new album. Heard Lana might release something. If you guys don't already I'd say to get Majid Jordan's new album. After that I'm just waiting for everything to be released. I download random music if it seems it'd sound nice.

I was also disappointed by the new Future. It's not terrible and flows very well, but no songs besides Low Life really stand out to me, unlike his releases from 2015 which were filled with highlight after highlight. I saw the lead singer of Pinegrove do a solo show in a basement last year. Not familiar with their music at all but it ruled! Thanks for the reminder about Tinashe -- . Aquarius was a great album and I'm hoping she does more stuff with that dreamy R&B vibe.

We can slowly see the decline in ideas and creativity. I can't wait for Tinashe she's trying to get into a market that only Rihanna, Beyoncé and Nicki are running right now.

Future may be able to keep up quantity wise but considering that both of them have put out 4 or 5 album-length releases in the past 10 months, he just seems to be recycling the same bag while Thug just gets crazier and crazier

Young Thug seems to just be coming out with some weird ass shit. On his new release some of these songs are hella questionable. I have yet to read the lyrics. I definitely hate the song with the two women rappers at the end, it sounds so bad. I think they should pause and take a break from making music

As for reading the lyrics I only do that to gain a better appreciation of the slang and wordplay he packs into his insanely dense verses. 90% of the attraction for me is just the energy/melodic experimentation/weirdness he's so willing to bring every time he gets on a track. Def not a perfect tape but it's just so much more fun for me to listen to than another monotonous Future record

Anyone check out The Life of Pablo yet? I just listened for the first time, my initial impression is that it's mostly pretty okay and occasionally incredible. The production is predictably on point, and super weird - some of these tracks are even more experimental and boundary-pushing than Yeezus.
But it's very fragmented - it feels more like a mixtape with really high production value than an album. Maybe that was intentional, given the way the album was marketed and released. But it's probably not something I will frequently listen to end-to-end, like I would with a more cohesive album.
Standout tracks for me are Ultralight Beam and Fade (the opener and closer... lol). I like most of the previously released tracks as well, especially No More Parties In LA. Oh, and this new version of Facts is infinitely better than the one on soundcloud.
